THE Nag's Head public house and Ken Smith's butcher's shop in Twyn Square were both awarded gold in this year's Usk In Bloom awards.
The competition includes every house in Usk and rewards the efforts of residents and businesses who contribute to the town's floral success in Wales In Bloom.
In the commercial categories the two gold awards were given, with many other pubs receiving silver and bronze awards, and Manor Court took the gold award for a sheltered housing complex.
In the residential classes, 22 Priory Gardens won the best front garden achieving gold, and another gold for best window boxes, along with 19 Woodside, Llanbadoc, and 12 Castle Street.
The best house without a garden and best hanging basket was won by 19 Woodside, along with 11 Baron Street, 28 The Meadows and 8 Church Street. A total of 39 gold, silver and bronze awards were given to residents, and Baron Street is worth a visit, scooping six awards. The judges included Phil Rollins of Caerleon and John Woods, secretary of Wales In Bloom.
Acting chairman Max Rowles said: "They have both been our judges before, so they are used to a high standard of displays which makes winning an even bigger achievement." The awards will be presented at the Glen-yr-Afon Hotel in the autumn.
