Pupil's award for citizenship

MONMOUTH Comprehensive School pupil Richard Jenkins has become one of the first in the UK to win the Remploy Citizenship Award.

Fifteen-year-old Richard won the award, which is being introduced to hundreds of schools, for proving he is a good citizen during his two week work experience at Abergavenny Farm Supplies.

The company's manager, Rob Llewellyn, said: "Richard was extremely hard working and his relationships with both customers and staff alike were excellent," he said.

"His help with the computer work was also outstanding. He is the best work experience student we have ever had."

Headteacher Carole Anderson added: "Richard's success is a good example of the school's mission statement Learning to Lead our Lives being put into practice." Remploy has many disabled people on its staff who are part of a team that builds a wide range of furniture for schools.

The company wanted to encourage an interest in citizenship among school pupils.
