Jacob arrives early in 2004

THIS little bundle of joy was a special New Year's delivery for his proud Abergavenny parents.

Jacob Thomas was born two weeks early, at just after 4am on New Year's day in Abergavenny's Neville Hall Hospital, making him one of the first babies to be born in Gwent in 2004.

Mum Gayle Watkins aged 26 , and fiancee James Thomas, 28, both from Mardy, said they were overjoyed with their firstborn New Year baby, who weighed in at a healthy 7 pounds two ounces.

Both mother and baby are well. Gayle said: "I am over the moon. I must be the happiest person in the world today. He's beautiful, I can't stop looking at him. He was due in two weeks, so he is a nice surprise New Year present for us."

The birth meant that Gayle was back at her place of work instead of partying on New Year's eve, as she is an assistant in the hospital's operating theatre.
