Gill Cup 2nd Round
After losing to Sudbrook C/C 'A' last weekend in the Benevolent Cup, it was the reverse this weekend. Caldicot Town came from 2-0 down to win 5-3.
Chris Hourihane, Caldicot's manager said: "We had to make tactical changes at the interval, I introduced Lee Jeremiah and by 'eck did it work."
Lee scored a hat-trick, set one up for his father Ray and then set up Jon Burrows for the fifth.
Robert Thorn scored two and Rory Aldrick added another for Sudbrook.
In another great comeback Tippling Philosopher played the best football of their season so far. Richard Snell broke the offside trap to net for Underwood just before half time, this only encouraged the Tippling to come out after the break with all guns blazing.
Captain Marvel Scott Millinship turned on a sixpence to net the equaliser after sixty five minutes and then with ten minutes left Paul Harris peeled away at the far post from a corner, dummied a defender and drove a hard drive past the keeper to secure a 2-1 victory.
Another cracking game saw an all Division 2 derby between Mathern Wanderers and Thornwell Burnt Barn, Daniel Windos scored a fine hat-trick for Mathern but Thornwell blasted back four of their own to go through.
More shocks unfolded at Undy as Undy Athletic 'B' defeated Asda 4-2, Jeff Allen (2), Steve Price and Andy Cochrane scoring for Undy as they defeated the Division 1 outfit, Dickie Smith Undy's veteran keeper looked superb between the sticks to keep the Asda strikers at bay.
Both Monmouth sides 'A' and 'B' battled their way to the quarter final draw and possible encounter with each other.
The 'A' team defeated Undy Athletic 'A' 2-1 and the 'B' side went to extra time to defeat Division 1 side Chepstow Town 5-4, Adam Cleaves scored a brace, Brett Cox, Matty King and Michael Beekes were the Monmouth heroes.
There were two easy passages through for Tintern Abbey who defeated Portskewett 'B' 7-1, Wayne Duffield (3), Mat Collins, Seb Learney, Rory Prettyjohn and an own goal and Portskewett 'A' who booked their last eight place with eight against Caldicot Castle 'B' who replied with two of their own.
Portskewett's goals came from Gareth James (4), Simon Hathaway (2), Brian James and David Watkins.
In Division 2 there was just one fixture with Caldicot Castle 'A' returning to the top of their league with a vital 4-3 away win at Underwood 'B'. B
