Caldicot on a high

Caldicot Ladies are on an all-time high after a 2-1 win over Welsh Women's football league giants Neath.

The win is a massive psychological boost for Caldicot, who are fifth in the table and this was their first win over one of the division's big guns this season.

The home side's goals came from top goal-scorer Julie Cole and Helen Cadogan.

Cadogan faced head on the challenge of being moved up front in the second half from her usual role of defender, scoring a great goal.

Despite being second in the league, Neath did not threaten Caldicot with too many chances. The efforts that were made were dealt with thanks to some very good saves from Caldicot keeper, Hazel Boyd, who had an excellent game.

The Neath goal came 17 minutes before the final whistle.

Caldicot manager Rachel Czajkowski was thrilled with her side's performance: "We played brilliant football, it is almost impossible to pick out individuals for praise because nobody had a bad game. We won because we played better football, there was no doubt we were the better side on the day."

This Sunday, Caldicot Ladies travel to Swansea. With morale riding high from their weekend win, anything could happen.

Boss Rachel Czajkowski is looking forward to the tie and is very optimistic: "With morale like this, we'll certainly give Swansea a run for their money. The last time we played Swansea, things got a bit physical, so this could well be our revenge match. Although Swansea are above us in the table, the win over Neath has proved that it doesn't really matter. If the ladies play like they did against Neath, they've got a very good chance."

Kick-off is 2pm.
