Racecourse in UK top ten

Chepstow Racecourse's success in attracting new followers to the sport of horse racing has been recognised by the body that represents all 59 British racecourses.

For the second year in a row, Chepstow recorded a percentage rise in attendance's that ranked in the top ten, according to The Racecourse Association.

The average increase across Britain was 2.8% and took racecourse attendance's nationally over six million for the first time in 50 years.

Chepstow's crowds - boosted in particular by a large rise in the number of spectators on summer evenings - rose by 8.5%.

Steve Clare, Racecourse Director, expressed his delight that Chepstow's performance stood up so well against national comparisons.

"While I prefer to judge our work against our own high expectations and targets, it is pleasing that we are among the leading racecourses in Britain which are taking the most meaningful steps forward in attracting new audiences to horse racing," he said.
