East Gwent League round-up

Another Saturday of quarter finals, this time it was the Fishwick Cup created for Division Two teams only.

Sudbrook C/C B were the victors in the most entertaining tie of the round, they almost threw away victory after going 2-0 up through a Carl Arthur brace, Castle A came back to 2-2 and forced extra time.

With no more goals at the end of extra time it went to penalties and with every penalty shoot a hero emerges, this time it was Sudbrook's keeper, Ian Parker, who made two superb saves during the shoot out to help his team to a 4-3 penalty win.

Castle B had little chance against cup favourites Chepstow Athletic, they were trounced 5-0, Athletic's scorers were Carl Bailey (3), Ricardo Chozas and Andrew O'Hara.

Thornwell B/Barn moved into next weeks semi-final draw with a 3-1 derby win against Bulwark, Bulwark's strike was scored by Alistair McDonald. Portskewett B are the other side in the semi-final, they walked through with a bye.

In Division One it was nail biting stuff at Undy Athletic A where Tintern Abbey were the visitors for the second week running.

Stuart Mackie grabbed the winner for Tintern to keep them top of the league. Second place Underwood A kept up the pressure on Tintern Abbey with an 11-1 away win at bottom club Cross Hop.

James McManus chipped in with six goals for Underwood, Gareth Leatherland scored Cross Hop's consolation. 'Diabolical' was the word used by Portskewett A manager Spencer Lovell as his team performed miserably against Sudbrook C/C A, Gareth James scored for Portskewett as they went down 4-1 at home.

Asda proved too strong for Caldicot Town, Jonathan Jermaine (2) and Andy Vaughan the Asda scorers whilst Ray Jeremiah and Owen Carter replied for Caldicot town.

Monmouth Town A got their season back on track with a 4-1 away win at Chepstow Town, Steve Smith scored Chepstow's only goal.

Only one game took place in Division Two, Underwood B matched their A teams performance with an 11-1 home win against Monmouth Town B, Ryan Green (4), Keiron Stevens (3), Justin Bidgood (2), Lee Ryder and Keiron Gettings the Underwood scorers, that win put the young guns top of Division Two on goal difference.
