MP joins call over speed fears

MONMOUTH MP Huw Edwards has backed calls by residents in Mitchel Troy to reduce the speed limit through the village.

Mr Edwards says he shares concerns raised by local people about speeding traffic following a serious crash on the old A40 through Mitchel Troy.

The accident happened on a dangerous bend near the Glen Trothy caravan park at 7am, on February 5.

A Vauxhall Vectra collided with a Ford Escort, leaving one passenger injured.

Residents say the dangerous bend is fast becoming an accident black spot and are calling for the speed limit to be reduced from 40mph to 30mph.

Mr Edwards said: "Local residents contacted me last year about the speed cars were travelling through Mitchel Troy. I met with local residents and represented their concerns to Monmouthshire council.

"Following the serious accident on this stretch of road recently, I have now requested that Monmouth-shire County Council look into this matter again and consider reducing the speed limit to 30mph through Mitchel Troy."

Mr Edwards has also written to Gwent Police about the issues and is awaiting a response.
