Gwent Central League round-up

Usk Town made it nine consecutive wins in Division One with a narrow 2-1 away victory over Panteg.

Daniel Bevan scored twice in the first half to give Usk Town a 2-0 half-time lead.But in the second half Tom Daley pulled a goal back for Panteg.

The win moves Usk Town up to fourth position while Panteg stay in 12th.

The top two teams, Sebastopol and Tranch Utd had no league games this week due to players being called up for the final of the Gwent County Inter-League Cup. Which was cancelled. Crickhowell's home fixture against Mardy was also cancelled.

Llanarth go above Crickhowell into third despite their winning run coming to an end in a 1-1 away draw at Cwmffrwdoer.

Steve Morgan put Llanarth 1-0 up in the 24th minute with a speculative 25-yard effort before Ross Peake levelled in the 77th minute from the penalty spot. The draw sees Cwm-ffrwdoer stay in seventh.

Clydach Wasps showed that last week's 3-0 win over table-toppers Sebastopol was no fluke with a 5-0 win at home to Pontypool Town.

The goals, all in the second half, came from Mark Stockham (2), Colin Evans, Ian Morris and Nicky Brown. Wasps remain in ninth while Pontypool Town stay in 12th.

Gilwern & District conceded two late goals at home to Goytre in a shock 4-2 defeat. Darren Wallace scored a hat-trick for Goytre and Gavin Powell had one from the penalty spot while Graham Jones and Graham Rees scored for Gilwern.

Gilwern & District hold sixth position and Goytre stay in eighth position.

Lower New Inn had to clear the remains of a bonfire at the Ruffetts pitch but were on fire themselves later as they beat Fairfield Utd 4-0.

Simon Heatman scored after ten minutes and five minutes later Mike Norman made it 2-0 with a shot from 25 yards. Alun Willis made it 3-0 with a shot from close range following a corner and on 40 minutes Heatman got his second goal of the match with a lob over the 'keeper.

Lower New Inn are now in 11th position and Fairfield Utd stay in 14th.

In Division Two Blaenavon Blues won 5-2 at home against visitors Govilon. Goal scorers for the Blues were Allan Scammell (2), Ryan Keen, Marcus Williams and Damian Heward and for Govilon Steve Wedlock and Mike Smith.

The win moves Blaenavon Blues up to fourth position over Govilon who stay fifth. Last week New Inn won 6-2 away to Pontypool B in the Benevolent Cup quarter-final but this week it was a narrow 1-0 win in the league.

The goal was scored by David Chesse in the 70th minute with a spectacular bicycle-kick. The win puts New Inn back into second while Pontypool B stay eighth. Andy Jones, the former Caerleon centre forward, made his refereeing debut.

Race B v Gilwern B was cancelled at Gilwern's request to the league committee.

In the Free Press Cup Group A, Prescoed were held 2-2 at home by PILCS. Goals from David Allen and Marvin Adams for Prescoed were cancelled out by Mike Murton and Nicky Tudball for PILCS. At present, PILCS top Group A with eight points, Prescoed are second on five points.

In the Free Press Cup Group B, Sebastopol B played Aber Thursdays at Penypound Stadium.

Sebastopol B won 4-2 with goals from Craig Lister, Aaron Mead, Ryan Atherton and Jon Peploe. Aber Thursdays' goals came from David Lambert and Kieron James. Sebastopol B top Group B with six points from three games.
