Michael Starr from Sedbury, Chepstow will be joining nine other budding hot shots to battle it out to become the newest name in motorsport at the final of the 2003 Michelin Renault Scholarship, which takes place at Croft Racetrack this Friday, February 27.
The best all-round competitor will be rewarded with a fully funded race season in the 2004 ELF/BTE Lawline Renault Clio Cup - worth £85,000 - and be managed throughout the season by British GT ace, Tim Sugden.
To reach the final, 23-year-old Michael has not only had to fight his way through three gruelling preliminary rounds, knocking out over 500 other entrants, but he must now demonstrate to a panel of judges comprising leading names in motorsport, that he is the driver with the greatest skill, physical and mental attributes to be crowned champion.
The winner of this year's scholarship will spend the entire 2004 season competing in a race-prepared 2-litre Renault-sport Clio as part of race team, Tim Sugden Motorsport, with everything supplied including full technical and mechanical support, race suits and ongoing expert training and development.
The scholarship winner will compete in 20 races between April and September at the country's top racing circuits, including Silverstone, Brands Hatch, Oulton Park and Donington Park.
All finalists will have to impress a tough panel of judges including two of Britain's finest drivers, scholarship creator and twice British GT champion, Tim Sugden, and ex-touring car driver and team-owner John Bintcliffe.
The 2004 Michelin Renault Scholarship will be launching in March. To enter, call the scholarship hotline on 0870 402 4040 or visit www.bearacingdriver.com
