Long overdue win for Chris and Jo

Chris and Jo Tooze from Usk finally achieved the result they deserve on last weekend's John Price Rallying National Tour of Epynt.

They won their class and finished 16th overall in their Vauxhall Corsa Maxi. Howard Cartwright and Hugh Austwick from Forresters' car club finished 40th overall and second in class.

The 15 stage event organised by Port Talbot Motor Club used some of the most demanding and torturous roads in the UK.

On a day that saw all kinds of weather, the event was won by Mel Evans and Martin Henry in a Subaru Impreza WRC from event sponsors John and Caroline Price in a Metro 6R4.

Third was Steve Hendy and Aled Davies in a Ford Escort Cosworth.

l Elsewhere in the Lake District Brian Bell and Paul Spooner were sixth overall and in class, in their Ford Focus WRC on the Malcolm Wilson Rally.

Damian Cole and Tim Sturla were 33rd overall and 19th in class in their Subaru Impreza WRC.

The event was won by Paul Bird and Andrew Dugdale in a Ford Focus WRC with Steve Petch and John Richardson in a Hyundai Accent WRC just four seconds behind.

In third place was Graham Middleton and John Morgan in another Hyundai Accent WRC.

In the Sherwood Forest area the Alter-native Sign Centre Robin Hood Historic Forest Stages took place.

In the post historic section of the event David Stokes and Den Golding from the Forest of Dean were leading for most of the event in their Braces Bread-sponsored Ford Escort RS1600.

A half-spin on the final stage cost David the win, allowing Ray Bellm and Marc Jones victory by seconds in another Ford Escort RS1600.
