Abergavenny Thursdays 0 Trethomas 1
A WEAKENED Thursdays side did well against promotion hopefuls Trethomas at Pen-y-Pound on Saturday.
Young Ryan Routley proved what an asset he could be to manager Bill Mainwaring as the club looks to avoid relegation from the Gwent County League.
Mainwaring's side was missing six players, including experienced midfielder Mike Pengelly and tough defender Will Morris who was out with a toe infection.
Routley admirably filled Pengelly's boots and according to Mainwaring, the dogged midfielder has a bright future at Pen-y-Pound.
"Ryan was outstanding," he said. "The lad had a big void to fill out there with so much of our midfield missing, but he did a great job. All of the boys who came in did really well. I think if we had our full side out we would have won, but that's no excuse."
Thursdays were good for a point against the Division Three title contenders. Trethomas only had three real chances on goal against a Thursdays side who on paper were much weaker than their opponents.
But Mainwaring is still confident his side can win this weekend away at Dugout after five good recent games.
"We've been playing really well recently and have picked up two good draws. We will go to Dugout looking for a win," he said.
The last time the two sides met Dugout edged a close game 2-1. The match kicks off at 3pm.
