Village campaign swings into action

A CAMPAIGN for high speed internet accesses in the village of Raglan has experienced a surge in interest from local people.

The 'Full Speed For Raglan' campaign swung into action last month in a bid to get broadband access for the village.

BT have set a target of 250 registrations of interest for the high speed internet service and the campaign was launched at the beginning of February with 70 registrations already in the bag, say campaigners.

Interest has now surged to 115 and the half way mark of 125 is now in sight. Roger Hancock, campaign co-ordinator, says there is still much to be done and has appealed for villagers to come forward and register.

Anyone with any interest in getting this important facility for the Raglan exchange area (01291) can register as long as they have a BT telephone line and 690xxx or 691xxx number.

Mr Hancock said: "Even if you do not want Broadband right now, your registration can help all those who do, including many small businesses in the area who are just waiting to get it. There is no commitment by registering your interest."

Residents in the nearby village of Dingestow have also launched a campaign for broadband for the area.

The trigger levels for Dingestow have been set at 100 and around 25 people have registered so far.

Villagers say they have been spurred on by the success of Monmouth and Trellech, which now have broadband after reaching the trigger levels set by BT.
