MARDY AFC made it six wins on the bounce after a 2-1 victory over Abercarn on Saturday.
The Gwent County League Division One outfit moved up to fourth place after the win and boss Gavin Butler was pleased with the performance.
"The game was played in difficult conditions but we adapted well and deserved the win."
Midfielder Phillip Melville was again on the scoresheet, making it seven goals in the last five games.
"I recently asked him for more goals and he has responded superbly. In the early part of the season he was not getting into the positions to score but now it's a different story" added Butler.
Striker Adam White claimed the other goal for Mardy as they raced into a 2-0 half-time lead.
Playing into the strong wind in the second period, Mardy's defence held up well and despite Abercarn pulling a goal back, the victory was not in doubt.
Mardy face Spencer Youth on Saturday in what Butler describes as a "crunch game".
He said: "We've taken fourth spot off them and they will want it back. It's bound to be a tough encounter but we will be aiming for a seventh win in a row."
