Crunch game awaits Monmouth Town

MONMOUTH Town play arguably their most important game on Saturday knowing victory could lift them out of the relegation zone.

After a disappointing season in the Gwent County League Division Two, victory over bottom club Rogerstone would give the team a huge boost and continue their recent improved form.

And they will be trying to overturn the 2-0 defeat that Monmouth suffered at Rogerstone's hands earlier in the season.

Assistant manager Andrew Lewis said: "We are a better team now than we were then and I expect us to give a much better account of ourselves."

He admitted that the game was hugely significant to the future prospect for both sides.

"Both teams will be desperate to win but we've had a much more settled team over recent weeks and I hope our good form continues."

Monmouth have put in some good performances recently and a 5-1 drubbing of Llanhilleth was great for team morale.

Lewis added: "We know we are still fighting for survival but with home advantage on Saturday we are looking for the three points."

He pinpointed central midfield duo Andrew Smith and David McDonald as key players for the weekend.

"When we lost at Rogerstone it was in that area that we lost it so I will be looking for big games from them."
