Sheep dog trials return

THE return of the sheep dog trials in Upper Redbrook, made a great day out, with more than 100 people - including walkers - watching one man and his dog in action.

Thirty-three dogs were entered into the competition, with Roy coming out as top dog, winning the Novice Cup, for his handler Gordon Martin, of the Forest of Dean.

Event organiser, Wilf Reed, 72, a semi-retired farmer, first began taking part in sheep dog trials more than 40-years ago and was even featured in the television programme One Man and His Dog in 1984.

It has since become a family affair, with both his wife, Janet andgrand-daughter also appearing on the series.

Mr Reed said: "It was a lovely day, we haven't held sheep dog trials for a few years, but we hope to hold them again next year.

"There was a good turn out, even the walkers on Offa's Dyke stood and watched for a while."
