Skennie bounce back with five goals

Skenfrith United 5 Leintwardine Colts 0

UNITED manager Paul Brown says it's important his side maintains its winning form ahead of Easter Monday's Ross Cup final against Western.

Brown reckons if his side can continue picking up results in their league games then there's no reason why they can't do the same in the season's cup final finale.

"It's vitally important we go into that cup final with a string of results behind our backs. Confidence has never been a problem in this side, but if you've got the winning habit in your blood before a cup final then it can only work in your favour," said the Skennie chief.

Brown will be more than pleased with his side's demolition job of sixth place Leinwardine Colts. Architect of the drubbing and man of the match Richard McDonald led the show from the midfield with an astute display.

His 30 yard free kick epitomised United's dominance in front of goals as it rocketed into the back of the net.

The ever electric David Ellias also proved why he is worthy of a free floating role in the centre of the park. United's top goal scorer in recent weeks added to his impressive tally with a brace of goals as Brown's men made light work of a totally out played Colts side.

"I was thoroughly impressed," said Brown who was forced to play in goals in the absence of keeper Ian Jones. "For the first time this season I felt we kept our discipline and played the pitch like it should be to it's full.

"Our wingers Anthony Wigmore and Brendan Oliver were superb. They were all over the opposition and tremendous with the ball at their feet.

"For me this was a very complete performance and I'm hoping we can build on it in our last few games."

United have just four league matches left before the Ross Cup final and are fourth of bottom in the Herefordshire Division Two table.

Brown though reckons another couple of wins and they'll be back up amongst the league's leaders.

"The division is that tight. A couple of results really would tip the balance so we still have something to play for in the league," he said.

The side face bottom club Fownhope Reserves this Saturday without key striker Richard Harry who could be out for the rest of the season with a hamstring injury.

"He's a quality player and we will miss him, but we'll just have to get on with it. Fownhope might be bottom, but that means nothing. They have one of the best strikers I have seen at this level. We will be cautious, but confident."

Saturday's match kicks off at Fownhope at 2.30pm.
