Monmouth Town 1 Rogerstone 1
TOWN'S relegation worries took a massive turn for the worst on Saturday as the struggling club slipped up against basement boys Rogerstone.
Assistant manager Andrew Lewis admitted his side was shattered by the result and left totally down hearted after dominating for so much of the game.
And with only five games left to rescue their ever flagging campaign Town's chances of survival are getting slimmer by the day.
"We absolutely battered them and we're all over them for most of the match, but we just couldn't get the goals. In the last twenty minutes I didn't have anything to do in goals, we were in that much control.
"You get games like this, but we do not want them at this stage of the season. It was a must win game for us so to a draw makes things very difficult for us now," said Lewis.
The challenge facing the club is as daunting as ever. The two clubs directly above them in the Gwent County table - Tillery and Llanilleth both have mountains of games in hand. For second of bottom Town fate is no longer in their hands.
"We need those sides to slip up. If they do and we win then we can push up amongst them, but it's going to be hard. We've only got one more home game left and that's against promotion bound Blaenavon Blues this Saturday so it couldn't be any more difficult.
"We're not out of it yet though. We've got 15 points to play for and we'll be giving it our best shot," insisted Lewis.
Saturday's game kicks off at the Monmouth Sports Club ground at 3pm.
