Chepstow on the up and up!

Caerau Ely 1 Chepstow Town 4

CHEPSTOW Town assistant manager Wayne Samuel's shoulders are feeling a lot more relaxed after his side's third win in four unbeaten games on Saturday.

And what a difference those ten points have made. Just a month ago Town were rooted in a desperate relegation battle with the threat of losing their precious Welsh League status staring them in the face.

Fast forward four short weeks and Samuel's side now has a real chance of a mid-table finish.

Who said you had to be David Blaine to pull off a stunt like that?

Samuel is hard-pushed to answer just how his side has gone from division whipping boys to glory hunters (almost) in the time it takes Robert Earnshaw to flip his way to the corner flag.

"If you could put your finger on it you'd make a fortune," joked an up-beat Samuel. "It's just unfortunate the form has come so late, but don't get me wrong, we're absolutely delighted."

Town built on last Wednesday's gutsy 1-0 win away at tough Llantwit Fardre with a 4-1 thumping of Caerau Ely. All their goals came from the formidable strike force trio of Matt Owen, Ryan Andrew and Craig Jolliffe.

"We're scoring goals and taking our chances and not conceding cheap goals any more," said Samuel.

"Cheap goals killed our season, but now we seem a lot more confident and that's given us the momentum on the field. We're there for the second balls and that's made a hell of a difference.

"These recent results have taken the pressure off our shoulders. It's nice to sit down after a game and say that was good rather than going over old ground.

"The hard thing with losing is the repetition kicking in. It's nice to just give everyone a pat on the back for once."

Town's drive back up the table continues tonight with a must-win game against bottom club Albion Rovers before returning to Jubilee Way on Saturday for their return game against Llantwit Fardre.

"We'll treat both sides with respect, but six points of course is the aim," said Samuel.

Tonight's match kicks off at 6.15pm, Saturday's 3pm.
