Collett's hat-trick boost

Goytre 3 FC Rhondda 2

GOYTRE goal-machine Steve Collett took his goals tally into double figures with his first hat-trick of the season against gutsy FC Rhondda last Wednesday.

Collett's hat-trick came courtesy of three sublime headers either side of the break to keep Goytre inside the Welsh League Division Three top ten.

Chairman and former manager, Paul Greenhalgh was the first to praise the in-form winger who has now netted ten goals for the Plough Road side this term.

"He's had a great season," said Greenhalgh. "He has always scored goals and has a good record with the club of putting the ball into the back of the net over the last six years. He is good in the air and has a hell of a shot and overall has been an excellent player and servant to this club."

Greenhalgh praised his side's battle qualities after coming back from 2-1 down to win the game against a determined FC Rhondda who looked much better than their league position at the bottom of the table suggests.

"They were a young side who came at us with nothing to lose. We were always putting them under pressure, but they were then trying to catch us on the break.

"I'm not disheartened with the two goals we let slip because we still dominated very well out there. It was unusual for us to concede those two goals, but we have shown great qualities this season and have the confidence to get back into games."

Goytre face Treowen this Saturday and will be without striker Paul Grills and Scott Taylor who is likely to be out for another two weeks after cutting his knee against Chepstow Town last month. Saturday's game kicks off at Treowen at 3pm.
