Locals aim to help brave Callum

TWELVE kind-hearted members of staff at an Abergavenny glazing company have got out their walking boots to help a five year old boy.

Little Callum Arnold from Wern Gifford, Llanfihangel Crucorney has a form of cerebral palsy which means he cannot walk or sit up on his own.

His parents Dean and Jane want to give him the maximum amount of independence while he is growing up, but they have less than a year to raise £34,000 to make adaptations at their home.

They have been awarded a social services grant of £30,000, and have to find the rest of the £74,000 needed to carry out the work. They have until January to find the money because of the terms of the grant, and have put £10,000 of their own money towards the work.

A fund has been set up for Callum at the Care and Repair Scheme in Cross Street, Abergavenny so donations can be made and pensioners have already donated £25.

Now 12 members of staff at Heronhurst in Brecon Road, Abergavenny are planning a sponsored walk next Sunday along the Monmouthshire/Brecon canal towpath between Llangynidr and Abergavenny.

Staff member Ceri Crosfield has also organised a clairvoyant evening at Abergavenny Rugby Club on April 30 to raise more money for Callum.
