East Gwent League round-up

Tintern Abbey retained the Watkins Shield after coming from 1-0 down against Underwood A and winning 2-1.

Dean Powell netted Underwood's only goal with a superb 28 minute free kick. After the break Tintern took control of the game and netted twice through Steve Jones (54 min) and the winner from Daniel Savage after 75 mins.

Argus Shield Semi-Finals: Caldicot Castle A's hopes of retaining the Argus Shield came a step closer with a hard fought 3-0 victory over cup favourites Chepstow Athletic.

Warren Jones (2) and an own goal saw them on their way. The other semi-final clash saw Undy Athletic B book their second final appearance of this season with a 1-0 win over Mathern Wanderers. Joe Rees was the Undy scorer.

Division One: Cross Hop battled bravely against Portskewett A and were unlucky to lose 4-0 in what was the only division one game of the day.

Division Two: Castle A defeated fellow clubmen Castle B 4-0 with goals from Mike Lambert (3) and Simon Walley.

Portskewett B defeated a weakened Undy Athletic B side 4-0, Andrew Jones and Paul Lovell each scoring a brace.

Thornwell Burnt Barn suffered a rare defeat at home to a strong Sudbrook C/Club B side. Chris Rees the Thornwell scorer whilst Chris Phillips, Ian Bolas and John Mullins replied for the Cricket Club.

Underwood B made easy work of Castle B winning 15-1, David Rees and Lee Ryder scored four each and a hat trick from Kyle Gettings helped them to their record win.

Monmouth Town B helped their low league position out with a 1-0 win over Bulwark. Craig Lewis the hero which moves Monmouth above Bulwark in the league.
