Goytre slip up again

Treowen 1 Goytre 0

GOYTRE slipped to their second defeat in two games on Saturday against Treowen but still remain eighth in the Welsh League Division Three table.

The Plough Road side missed three clear chances on goal and really should have got something out of a very even match. Luck though has been both cruel and kind this season to Goytre and on Saturday it was the turn of the dark stuff to rain heavy on them.

"It was just a bad day at the office for us and one we'll be wanting to forget quickly. We had so many clear-cut chances that I would have had a chance of scoring one at my age, but things weren't going for us," said gutted Goyte chairman Paul Greenhalgh.

Merthyr Town loan signing Andy Hamett missed an open header five yards out, while the so often reliable Steve Collett brushed his six-yard shot wide as well.

Miss of the match though fell to Darren Haines. With only the keeper to beat Haines tricked the Treowen shot stopper the wrong way only to see his goal bound shot pushed away by the keeper's leg.

Greenhalgh is hoping the club can turn things around this Saturday away at FC Rhondda.

"We beat them 3-2 last time in a close game so we know what to expect. I would like to think we can go there though and win," he said.

The match kicks off at 3pm.
