Chepstow Town 1 Llantwit Fardre 0
CHEPSTOW Town stretched their unbeaten run to five games and now look set to capitalise on fellow Monmouthshire outfit Goytre's poor form and over-take them in the table.
Only four points and two sides separate eighth place Goytre and Chepstow Town who have now climbed to 11th.
Just six weeks ago the side was rooted near the foot of the Welsh League Division Three table with the threat of relegation dangling precariously in front of their faces.
Now Town have the carrot of slipping past Goytre and finishing above their county rivals as an added incentive to keep their unbeaten run going. Ryan Andrews grabbed Town's only goal on Saturday in a hard fought win over Llantwit Fardre.
Lee Relish was assistant manager Wayne Samuel's pick of the bunch after impressing with a quality display in the midfield. Keeper Tom Dickinson was instrumental too in keeping the mid-table chasing side in the match with a string of good saves.
However much pleased Samuel was with the result though he did admit to being disappointed his side hadn't matched their current form with the rest of the season.
"In one respect I am slightly bitter at what has happened this season. We haven't changed any of the faces at the club. Our turn around in form is down to the same players who were with us at the start of the season.
"Deep down they know too that they could have been doing this months ago, but that doesn't mean we're not pleased with what they have achieved recently," said Samuel.
Town's assistant chief called on his players to win their remaining four games and set the foundations in place for next season's promotion charge.
"We do not want to slip of the gas now and end on a low. That is why it is important we keep this run going. If we do then we keep that rapport in the side and the winning mentality in the players heads."
Town face a tough game against third place Tillery tonight at Jubilee Way. On the plus side though three of their remaining four games are at home.
"We're in form and have to remember that. Confidence is high and we want it to remain that way. The players know just how capable they are and will go out onto the field with the intent of showing that," added Samuel.
Tonight's home game against Tillery kicks off at 6.15pm.
