Abertillery Bluebirds 5 Monmouth Town 1
MONMOUTH Town keeper Andrew Lewis has taken full responsibility for his side's thumping away at Abertillery promising his team-mates that it won't happen again.
Lewis, who has been the club's stand-in keeper for the last two seasons because of a lack of shot stoppers, let in three howlers against Abertillery to leave Town well and truly stuck at the bottom of the Division Two table.
"I was awful," said Town's assistant manager. "I have to put my hand up and say three of those goals were down to me. It's a game I would rather forget quickly because we can not take anything from it. I take my hat off and admit what I did and apologise for the mistakes."
Lewis wasn't all to blame though. Aside from defender Shane Dorington no one in the Town side gave a performance to make the club proud of. Substitute Sam Palmer got their only goal to make it 4-1, but that only inspired Abertillery to score another.
With three games after last night's match against Newport Civil Service Town have little time left to hold onto their Gwent County Division Two place.
This Saturday Town travel to seventh place West Pontnewydd, kick off 3pm.
