Chepstow bouyed by victory

Risca United 1 Chepstow Town 3

CHEPSTOW Town assistant manager Wayne Samuel is hoping his side can pick up seven points from their remaining three games and push above table rivals Risca United and Newcastle Emlyn into the Welsh League Division Three top ten.

Samuel, buoyed by Town's big 3-1 win over Risca last week, said it was important the club end their roller coaster campaign on a high admitting he already has one eye on next season.

"In a realistic world we are well capable of getting seven points. We've got three games left and they're all at home. The real tough one is against Bryntirion on Wednesday. They're champions elect and the yard stick we have to measure ourselves by.

"If we can get these next three games out the way like we want then we will have finished well in what has been an average season for us. Next season we'll want to push on. We've spoken to a couple of people and also have our eye on some younger players too so things are in the pipeline," said Samuel.

More performances like the one against Risca and Town should have no troubles next year. Craig Jolliffe, Paul Sheppard and Lee Relish got the goals in a match described by Samuel as probably the best he's seen this year.

"We were excellent," he said. "It was a wet pitch, but we competed and still managed to play some quality football, which was extremely pleasing," he said.

Old Town starlet Carl May could be called up on for tonight's match against Bryntirion. Regular shot stopper Tom Dickinson is out with other commitments. The match kicks off at Jubilee Way at 6.15pm.
