Mardy 0 Clydach Wasps 2
MARDY'S poor end of season form continued over the weekend with a pride crushing 2-0 defeat at the hands of arch rivals Clydach Wasps.
Manager Gavin Butler's side now lies fifth in the table five points ahead of the Wasps who sit one place directly below them.
The problem though for Mardy is that they have no games left to stretch that gap, while the Wasps have two games in hand.
If they win both of those matches they will push past Mardy and possibly Spencer Youth in fourth who are level with Mardy on points, but have a better goal difference and two games in hand.
If Mardy do slip to sixth it will still be an improvement on last season when the club finished seventh - the highest in its history.
But Butler will take little consolation from that after watching his side string together eight wins on the trot that propelled the club into the top four with a real chance of finishing third in the Gwent County Division One table early in the season.
Back then Butler was confident his side could achieve that goal, but a slump in form saw his side trickle back down the table where they have struggled to hold onto to their top half of the table place.
All Mardy fans can hope for now is that Clydach lose their last two games, though on current form the Wasps are firm favourites to pip their rivals to fifth spot.
