Newport Civil Service 7 Monmouth Town 1 (mid-week) West Pontnewynydd 1 Monmouth Town 1
MONMOUTH Town assistant manager Andrew Lewis has admitted his side will need a miracle to avoid relegation.
The Gwent County Division Two side are second off bottom, but Rogerstone - the side currently propping up the table - have four games in hand and are overwhelming favourites to pick up enough points in those matches to pip Town to safety.
"I've got everything crossed hoping other results go our way," said Lewis. "We need to win our last game and hope Rogerstone lose all theirs, but to be honest we're going to need a miracle."
Town's fate was as good as written last week when they crashed to a numbing 7-1 defeat at Newport Civil Service.
Andrew Smith got their only goal from the penalty spot, but you can bet he would have swapped that spot kick with it the one he missed three days later against West Pontnewynydd.
Speaking on one of the worst seasons in Town's proud history Lewis pin pointed their bad form to the start of the season.
"We just didn't have a strong side back then. We've only got a regular side together now and that alongside not having enough players to field substitutes and have as backup has cost us," he said.
Town play their final game of the season this Saturday away at Pentwynmawr Athletic and Lewis has insisted the club give one final push in the fight against relegation by winning. The match kicks off at 3pm.
