Goytre 1 Bryntirion 1 (mid-week) Treowen 0 Goytre 2
GOYTRE chairman Paul Greenhalgh is confident the club can hold onto its prize assets - midfielder Steve Collett - despite the interest other Welsh League clubs could show in him after bagging 15 goals for the Plough Road side this season.
Collett is likely to be the target of some of the Welsh League's big-money sides in the close season, but Greenhalgh is adamant the hot-shot midfielder will remain loyal to Goytre.
"He loves the club and is very settled here. His commitment is second to none. Even when the second team is playing he's looking to get a game with them. He is a real clubman," said Greenhalgh.
Collett displayed the kind of form that will have clubs sniffing around Plough Road last week against league leaders Bryntirion who knew a win would seal them the title.
Collett's tap in after Kevin Wallace's header came back of the posts though meant the champagne went on ice for Bryntirion.
Goytre continued their blistering form with a 2-0 win over Treowen on Saturday to deny them any hope of promotion and complete a double whammy of the division's top sides.
Seventh place Goytre now have a strong chance of finishing inside the top six in their first season in the Welsh League Division Three.
With two games left to pip Pentwyn Dynamo to that lofty spot Greenhalgh insisted six points is a must.
"We're looking for two wins and nothing else. We want to end the season on a high and finish in style," he said.
Goytre kick off tonight away at Llantwit Fardre at 6.15pm, before travelling to Fields Park Pontllanfraith for their final game of the season next Tuesday, kick off again 6.15pm.
