Shop manager guilty of indecent assault

A MONMOUTH shop manager has admitted indecently assaulting a 16-year-old youth.

Darren Jenkins, 27, of Hanbury Road, Pontnewynydd, near Pontypool, pleaded guilty to the offence, committed on November 16 last year, at Newport crown court yesterday.

He was told by Judge Christopher Llewellyn-Jones he had to register on the sexual offenders register within three days of appearing in court.

The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, comes from Pontypool.

Jenkins is the manager of Burtons Menswear in Monmouth, and also takes church services in Pontypool.

He was due to stand trial this week, having pleaded not guilty at an earlier hearing, but entered a guilty plea yesterday.

The case has been adjourned until May 25, for pre-sentencing reports.

Jenkins has been granted bail on condition that he does not attempt to approach the victim or work with children under 17.

In July last year, Jenkins was one of the project organisers for the Arcadia group, incorporating Burton and Dorothy Perkins, which attempted to persuade other Monmouth traders to take part in a trial Sunday opening.
