ABERGAVENNY Thursdays ended their Gwent County Division Three season the way they started it - with a defeat.
The Pen-y-Pound club lost 2-1 away to Dugout and are now relegated from the league and will play their football at the bottom of the Gwent football pyramid next season in the Gwent Central League.
The relegation brings to an end Thursdays dramatic 12-year slide through the Welsh football leagues. Just over a decade ago the club was kicking balls in the League of Wales.
Now the club is at its lowest ever ebb - at the very bottom of football ladder where many believe they'll struggle to re-capture the glory years of so long ago.
But in a previous interview with manager Bill Mainwaring the Thursdays chief promised fans relegation wouldn't be the end of the once great club.
"We'll be OK. We have some great young players here and with just a few more additions we can work our way back up," said Mainwaring who used to manage New Inn.
A small glimmer of hope could see Thursdays cling onto their Gwent County status if Gwent F.A. officials decide in the near future they are prepared to relinquish relegation this season.
The possibility of this comes about because so many sides have already dropped out of the Gwent County League this season due to varying reasons. If relegation remains then the divisions will be depleted even more so F.A. officials are likely to be keen to maintain a steady flow of sides and bar relegation this term. A decision could be made later this month.
