Councillor attacked by muggers

A CALDICOT councillor is recovering after being attacked while walking near his home.

Cllr David Evans says he was knocked to the ground and searched by two youths who had jumped out on him as he walked home along Denny View.

The incident happened on Saturday May 1, after Cllr Evans had been dropped off by a friend a short distance from his house.

"I was walking along the pavement near a big power box, when two teenagers jumped out on me. They knocked me to the ground and were searching me. One of them said 'turn him over', and as they did I kicked one of them in the groin.

"I was in shock and surprised this type of thing is happening."

Cllr Evans says he was not badly injured, but was left shocked and shaken by his experience and is now calling for more street lighting in the area.

"I think we need more street lighting in Caldicot because these things are happening. I would like to thank people for there concern."

Two youths have been arrested in connection with this incident and are helping police with their enquiries. Cllr Evans is continuing to help police with their investigations into his attack.

This incident follows an attack on a woman near Cherry Tree Nursing Home, Caldicot, on April 30, where she was robbed of her handbag containing £200. Two youths have been arrested in connection with this incident.
