Llanarth secure cup triumph

Gilwern & Dist 0 Llanarth 3, A Jones & Co Usk Langdon Cup Final

Llanarth, having lost to Gilwern & Dist 3-2 the previous week in the P&P Pest Control Open cup final came up trumps and turned the tables on their old rivals, Gilwern, by lifting the Langdon Cup 3-0.

The match was played at Goytre's magnificent Plough Road pitch, on a lovely warm evening. A good crowd came along to see whether Gilwern & Dist could make a cup winning double or whether Llanarth could lift their game and make things even.

Llanarth went into a 1-0 lead in the fourteenth minute from a Colin Morgan header which was perfectly delivered by Mike Morgan, the ball went through the keepers hands into the Gilwern net.

Ten minutes later Llanarth went 2-0 up when Stephen Morgan ran through the Gilwern defence, he collected a ricochet off a defender and shot the ball in between the keeper and centre back.

In the second half Gilwern tried to get back into the game but Llanarth always appeared to be hungry for a win. The final straw for Gilwern came in the 80th minute when they gave away a penalty for a push in the box and David Teague made no mistake with his third penalty scored in two successive finals in a week.

The last of the league's four cup finals was played on Saturday at Goytre FC - this was the league's A Jones & Co Usk Second Division's Benevolent Cup Final.

Blaenavon Blues beat New Inn 3-2 after extra time.
