Another diver dies in Tidenham

THE DROWNING of a diver at the National Diving Centre in Tidenham, near Chepstow, on Monday was the third death at the centre in six weeks.

The man, who is believed to be in his 40s from the Middlesex area, was pronounced dead just after 2pm yesterday.

The incident at the flooded quarry on the A48 also involved two other divers. A Buckinghamshire man was taken by helicopter to a decompression chamber in Poole, Dorset and a woman from the same area was not seriously hurt.

A spokeswoman for Gloucestershire Police said: "Police are not treating the death as suspicious. The coroner and the health and safety executive have both been informed."

Divers Janine Davison-Evans, 27, of Stockton-on-Tees, Cleveland and her partner Hank Austin, 25, of Ascot, Berkshire, both drowned at the centre in April.
