MEMBERS of Chepstow and District Swimming Club won 38 medals at the East Wales Area Swimming Championships, held at Pontypool Leisure Centre over the last two weekends.
Kayla Hayes gained three of the gold medals, for 100m breaststroke, 200m individual medley and 100m butterfly in the 11-year-old category.
Kimberley Briscoe, also in the 11-year-old category, won a gold medal for the 100m backstroke.
Kayla also won a silver medal in the 50m freestyle event and a bronze medal in the 100m freestyle.
Sarina Hayes won bronze medals in the 13-year age group events of 100m breaststroke, 200m individual medley and 100m freestyle.
Hannah Roberts won bronze in the 400m individual medley and 800m freestyle as she continues to develop as a middle and long-distance swimmer.
Joe Smith gained a bronze medal in the 12-year breaststroke event.
Anna Stanley made a successful first appearance at area-level competition with a bronze medal in nine-and-under butterfly event and finalist medals in individual medley, backstroke and freestyle events.
Sarina Hayes, Hannah Roberts, Jackie Mustoe, Joe Smith, Alex Ford, Laura Webster, Samantha Chantarasak, Kayla Hayes, Tanya Hayes, Kimberley Briscoe and Andrew Briscoe also gained finalist medals.
The relay teams also won bronze and finalist medals, and there were many personal best performances.
Chepstow and District Swimming Club is always looking for new members.
Many members, having become fit through swimming training, have found themselves successful in other sports, such as athletics, triathlon, football and rugby.
