Chepstow 2nds beat Panteg by four wickets

Chepstow seconds gained a four wicket victory at home to Panteg on Saturday.

Panteg won the toss and chose to bat on a pearler of a batting track prepared by groundsman Steff Evans.

Mark Davies was the pick of the Panteg batting scoreing a superb century. But after being dismissed on 100 by Chepstow's skipper Rob Jones the rest of the Panteg order fell away with all of the Chepstow bowlers chipping in with fine figures.

Jules Hardwicke 10-5-3-26, Rob Jones 10-4-2-24, Justin Thornhill 10-2-2-31, Jeremy Stead 7-1-1-28 and 16 year old James Colthart 7-1-2-36 restricting Panteg to 197-9.

Chepstow got off to the worse possible start with Stead being dismissed for 0 in the second over. Kevin Hitchcock 21 and Andy Tutty 34 provided sound resistance to a young Panteg attack and it was left to Colthart 21 not out and Guy Freeman who hit brilliant 90 not out including 12 fours and 2 massive sixes to see Chepstow through to a comfortable victory with 12 overs to spare.

This Saturday the seconds travel to Newport with the first team playing at home hoping for a change in fortunes after a disappointing start to their season. Play starts at 1pm.
