CRICKHOWELL picked up their first win of the season away at Monmouth seconds on Saturday with a surprise three wicket victory in the Flint & Cook Marches League Division Two tie.
Monmouth posted a respectable 175-9 from 45 overs but it was not enough to stop them from going down to their first reverse of the campaign.
Monmouth's second team skipper Idris Leonard again produced an outstanding spell of seam bowling, bagging 4-17 from 15 overs, including nine maidens.
But Leonard had little support from his back up bowlers and Ben Morgan, the former Glamorgan seconds player, blasted a match-winning 84 which was influential in guiding Crickhowell home in 41.3 overs.
R Pullman (15) and Mel Sussex (11 not out) were the only other Crickhowell batsmen to reach double figures as Ben Morgan took centre stage.
Morgan crashed nine fours and five sixes as bottom club Crickhowell, relegated from Division 1 at the end of last season, chalked up their first victory.
Dave Guppy picked up 1-16 from three overs and Tony Sully took 1-72 from 14 overs, while there were catches taken by Ian Morgan, Guppy and Gareth Hughes.
