CENTURIES from David Teague and Rob Prewett helped table-topping Monmouth Cricket Club to an emphatic 86-run home win over Llandrindod Wells in the Flint & Cook Marches League Division 1 on Saturday.
Teague struck 126 and Prewett made an unbeaten 101 as the reigning league champions rattled up a daunting 253-5 from 45 overs at the Sports Ground.
Teague joined Prewett following the dismissal of stand-in captain Dan Head in the opening over, and the pair shared a mammoth 223-run stand for the second wicket.
Monmouth, who are sponsored by Misbah Tandoori Restaurant, struggled to 9-1 off the first eight overs, but it was all one-way traffic after that.
The duo propelled the Monmouth total to 110-1 in 20 overs and they were eventually parted with the total at 223 in the 40th over. Teague struck 14 fours and four sixes in his second ton in three matches and scored his superb 126 from just 118 balls.
Prewett collected 12 boundaries in his first century of the season, and it was fitting that the experienced campaigner carried his bat throughout the innings.
Although Monmouth were without three key bowlers - captain Paul Swingwood, vice-captain Jonathan Roberts and Australian all-rounder Charlie Bye - Llandrindod Wells immediately fell behind the run-rate.
Opening bowler Andrew Childs applied the brakes from the first ball, limiting the visitors to a pedestrian 54-2 from 20 overs.
Childs, who finished with 1-60 from 13 overs, conceded just ten runs from his first nine overs and bowled five consecutive maidens.
Fellow opening bowler Alex Richards claimed 1-39 from ten overs, but the leading wicket takers were Jonathan Jones who snapped up 2-18 in eight overs and off-spinner Aled Jones (2-34 from 10).
Although Llandrindod's Sri Lankan import K Jaywick'ma struck 38 and contributions from M Evans (31), A Barker (31) and M Mills (23 not out), the Mid Wales outfit finished on 167-7 from 45 overs.
There were fine catches taken by Prewett (2), Teague (2) and Aled Jones, while Mon-mouth wicket-keeper Jonathan Davies made a sharp stumping.
Match balls sponsored by Terry Cleaves and committee member Pat Baker. Monmouth have won their opening six Marches League matches and are without a scheduled fixture this Saturday.
