Fete's triumphant return

THE revival of Redbrook village fete proved a great success.

The fancy dress parade began from The Bell Inn along to the football pitch. Anne MacFarlane from Monmouth's Off Centre Theatre awarded winners prizes in five categories.

This year's parade was led in style by Ross Phoenix Drum Majorettes, followed by the fancy dress contestants who were greeted at the fete by Reverend Greta Hayle of Newland Parish who officially opened the event.

She welcomed all to the event and spoke warmly of the value and importance of shared community spirit.

n addition to local food, craft and produce stalls, the afternoon featured a programme of local entertainments.

These included very popular displays of skill by the Phoenix Majorettes and of country dancing by pupils from Redbrook primary School.

Wild Oats drew appreciative crowds for their Border Morris dancing followed by a contemporary presentation of bible stories by Wyesham Christian Fellowship.

The grand finale saw a head to head tug-o-war between Redbrook All-comers and Monmouth Festival.

Both teams fought hard with Monmouth Festival the eventual winners of best of three.

As the last gazebo was dismantled, Village Hall Committee member and chief organiser Lynne Freeman said: "It's wonderful, just like the old days and I can't thank everyone enough for the extraordinary support they've given us."
