THE Welsh European Funding Office and the Welsh Development Agency have given the thumbs up for Work to continue with the regeneration of Chepstow High Street.
Since the decision to revert back to two-way traffic system after the failed attempt of the one-way system in the town centre, Monmouthshire County Council has been talking with the financial backers about their £1.2 million grant towards the regeneration scheme.
Chris Jones, Project Manager, Monmouthshire County Council, said: "Monmouthshire County Council and its partners from the Town Council and the Chamber of Commerce had to demonstrate to the funding bodies that the overall integrity of the scheme would not be affected by going back to a two way scheme.
"We have now satisfied them that we can still deliver the scheme to the original scheme objectives, and are eager to complete the works in the town centre.
"The regeneration scheme will involve the introduction of high quality materials, public artwork and the creation of useable public space for events and festivals."
The scheme is being funded by European Union's Objective 2 Transitional Funding, provided by Welsh Assembly Government, Welsh Assembly Government's Local Regeneration Fund, Welsh Development Agency's Rural Recovery Fund and Monmouthshire County Council's capital programme.
