Mayor outlines her aims

COUNCILLOR Anthea Dewhurst has been elected as the mayor of Monmouth Town Council for the coming year.

During her acceptance speech she acknowledged the outstanding work of the out-going mayor, Cllr Susan White.

Speaking to the new council Cllr Dewhurst said: "All councillors are the voices of those they have canvassed in their wards and are keen to get started to realise particular ideals and goals.

"My three main objectives are to get Monmouth Fair Trade status; to help make sound foundations for a youth council, where young people would have a realistic opportunity to inspire this, and to help revive the farmers' market."

Cllr Sue Chivers was elected deputy mayor and Drew Lacey, defeated in the recent election, was co-opted for the Dixon with Osbaston ward.
