Stars of the future at Usk rugby festival

THE potential Welsh rugby stars of tomorrow were on show at Usk Church in Wales Primary School rugby festival on Friday - and stars of today were there to present prizes.

Three teams from Usk, two from Undy Primary and one from Raglan Primary battled it out in what was "a very competitive tournament," according to school governor, dinner lady and match referee Kay Peacock.

Mrs Peacock said: "Everybody had a great time, including the parents and pupils who turned out to support the teams.

"We do full contact rugby as well but this was touch rugby and the quality was very good."

Welsh-capped Nick Walne and Martyn Williams, both of Cardiff Blues presented team and individual awards to participants from the three Monmouthshire schools.

Man of the tournament was 11-year-old Nicholas Maplestone from Undy Primary but eventual tournament winners were the Usk A Team.
