Thursdays' major deal

ABERGAVENNY Thursdays have announced a major sponsorship deal with one of Gwent's biggest building construction companies Anthony A Davies Ltd.

The Abergavenny-based firm will be the club's chief sponsors and their name will be on the club's new green kit.

The link-up once again proves the club under the Thursdays Trust is taking giant steps forward in its quest to become a force in Welsh football again.

Anthony Davies, whose son Matthew is a keen footballer, said he was delighted to be joining forces with such a proud club.

"We think it is important that not only should the town have a successful team, but also that Abergavenny is seen to be both supporting and involved with the team. We think the regeneration of this unique sporting facility is very exciting," he said.

Paul Baillie, a member of the Thursdays Trust added: "This is a fantastic show of support and we thank all at Anthony A Davies Ltd for this fantastic gesture. The club is committed to building links with local businesses so they can be true representatives of the town. The sponsorship is a valuable contribution to the regeneration of the club.

"We will be shortly issuing membership application forms for the Trust so more individuals and businesses can get involved. We're really thrilled with the response we've had so far."

The club's new kit will be worn for the first time when Thursdays take on the might of Newport County at Pen-y-Pound on July 22, kick-off 6.30pm.

Training has started under the coaching staff of Kyle Holmes, Bill Mainwaring, Phil Hemmings and Brian Griffiths and numbers so far have been "excellent".

Work on the ground's changing rooms and pitch has also begun in preparation for the new season in August.

Any players, businesses or members of the public wishing to get involved with the club should contact Brian Griffiths on 01873 855616.
