Man for the job

GOYTRE Football Club have appointed former Gilwern manager Alan Burkitt in charge of their second team.

Burkitt brings with him a good pedigree to the Gwent Central side. Last season he led Gilwern to two cup finals, triumphing in one, and has a good reputation in the local football scene.

As an added bonus Burkitt lives in Goytre.

"We are confident Alan has all the qualities we are looking for and we believe he will do an excellent job with the seconds," said club chairman Paul Greenhalgh.

The club's Welsh League side get its pre-season under way with a friendly this Saturday at home against Blain Rhondda, kick-off 3pm.

Training is also under way for both sides every Monday and Wednesday, 6.30pm, at the club's Plough Road ground. Old and new players are always welcome.
