Petition raised over skate park

ABERGAVENNY parents campaigning for better leisure facilities for young people will present a petition to the town council tonight (Wed).

The parents' action group was formed three months ago, and they organised a petition calling for Monmouthshire County Council to provide youngsters with a skatepark and other leisure facilities.

It is known that several town councillors are sympathetic to their campaign, and want to take an active part in helping to provide them with a temporary skatepark until the county council budget allows a permanent facility to be built.

They have looked at several sites, but believe the only suitable venue at present is Tuckers Mill car park off Lion Street. They say a temporary solution can be provided there.

There are dozens of keen youngsters who enjoy the sport, and they practise on waste ground off Brecon Road and Union Road. But some of them have been criticised for using St.John's Square as a skatepark, and there have been complaints to the police.
