Goytre off to promising start

GOYTRE got their Welsh League pre-season campaign off to the perfect start with an impressive 3-1 win over Blan Rhondda at Plough Road over the weekend.

A brace from Mark Langford and an Andy Walsh strike eased Goytre home to the comfortable win ahead of two tough games this week against Taff Wells and Llanwern.

Manager Steve Morgan can look forward to those matches with great optimism though after watching his men ruthlessly tear apart former Welsh League Division Two opponents Blan Rhondda.

The highlight of the game for Morgan will be the early signs of a possible high scoring strike partnership Mark Langford and Andy Walsh are showing.

Walsh opened the scoring with a sweetly taken shot after being set up by Langford's precision pass. Not to be out down by Langford extended the lead with two first half goals - one the cheekiest of back heels - to finish the game off as a contest before the second half had even kick off.

Simon Bailey, Ian Rosser, Darren Haines, Dean Taylor, Mike James, Phill Jayne and former seconds player James Hodges all earned the praise of former manager and current chairman Paul Greenhalgh.

"This was a very encouraging display and one that will fill us with great confidence," he said.

Tonight's match against Taffs Well at Plough Road kicks off at 6.30pm, while Saturday's game - also at home - against Llanwern kicks off at 3pm.
