Caribbean flavour to racing

FRIDAY is Caribbean Night at Chepstow Racecourse - with racegoers set to enjoy attractions as varied as limbo dancing and surf boarding.

The themed horse racing evenings have never been more popular - and Friday is set to be no exception.

The first 200 people through the racecourse gates will be rewarded with garlands to wear. And the racegoer with the best Caribbean outfit or 'loudest' shirt will win a special prize.

There are six races to watch on the track itself - starting at 6.30pm - as well as activities galore around the racecourse to entertain the visitors before, during and after the sport.

Would be surfers can test their balance and agility on a mechanical surfboard, while those racegoers with particularly flexible back and tummy muscles can show their prowess as limbo dancers.

And it wouldn't be Caribbean Night without a steel band entertaining the crowds during the evening.

And, as soon as the last race is over at 9pm, John Oliver's Live - featuring four vocalists and a popular brass section - will be playing on stage.

Simon Lee, the General Manager at Chepstow Racecourse, said: "The post-racing entertainment proved extremely popular during Ladies' Night earlier this month, with racegoers still here after 11pm. It's a splendid way to round off a Friday evening out at the races."

Gates open at Chepstow Racecourse at 4.30pm for a first race time of 6.30pm on Friday 23 July.
