THE area around Drybridge Nature Reserve's duck pond has been targeted by vandals.
Several of the signs have been damaged and one of the park benches has been wrenched off its mountings and thrown into the water.
The pond was formed in the 1980s after the earth was removed the area to form the town's flood defences.
Monmouth town councillor Sue Chivers explained that the area was left to the forces of nature and it quickly became a haven for wildlife.
Cllr Chivers said: "The park is used by local people of all generations and it's a crying shame that vandals should want to destroy such an valued amenity."
Monmouth AM David Davies and local councillor Alan Wintle visited the duckpond this week to see first hand the problems at the site.
"Sadly this sort of pointless destruction is becoming increasingly common everywhere you go,"said Mr Davies.
Local people feel that the damage occurs on Friday and Saturday nights and councillor Wintle promised to make an official request for the damage to be put right by the local authority.
