MONMOUTH'S Annual nine day free Festival comes of age on Friday as it celebrates 21 years of providing top musical entertainment in the town.
The event opens with Monmouth based The Mighty pledge for traditionally it has been that Friday night is pledge night, and topping the bill sees 2-tone legends The Selecter taking to the Agincourt Square stage.
Known for their hits On My Radio and Three Minute Hero, the Selecter will be performing from 9.30pm and they followed on from last year's performance from stable mates The Beat.
Bitchpups, with band members from across Monmouthshire, are a group who are fast gaining a big following. They will be supporting Eddie and the Hotrods as they perform their own brand of original rock music with hints of punk, funk and even swing on Saturday evening.
But the Festival is not just about big names as the Family Fun Sunday is now a major part of the festival.
And the weekday nights bring back the local feel to the Festival.
During its 21 years, the Festival has its roots by showcasing local talent and day four is no different as it sees the final of the Battle of the Bands competition on the Monday night.
The winners of the competition will get to perform a few numbers on the final night of the festival.
Day five sees Forest based Bluze the Band supporting Getz/s Loose, an acoustic four piece blues band with a national reputation.
Day six on Wednesday see an outlandish psychobilly show from members of Pretty Grim and the evening concludes with the sounds of Rockabilly from the Jets.
Day seven sees another locally based band Shoebop take to the stage and support Los Squideros who take a party night to the extreme with their brand of Latin beats.
Day eight features a band that like to play live and loud - Jebo and topping the bill is The Dr Teeth Big Band who are an eight piece jump jive orchestra.
The festival draws to a close on Saturday Aug 7 with The Lovely Jubblees and The Dictionary of Soul.
