Goytre 1 Cwmamon 2
GOYTRE got their Welsh League Division Three campaign off to a bad start with a home defeat against Cwmamon, despite dominating most of the game.
Goytre's only goal came late in the second half when substitute striker Mike Dixon rounded the keeper to slot home the consolation score.
Midfielder Steve Collett and striker Andy Walsh both had excellent chances to pull off a win, but neither could find the back of the net despite some superb touches of the ball.
Chairman Paul Greenhalgh blamed the referee, saying he had cost them at least a point from the match.
"Steve Collett went in for a 50-50 ball with one of their players and the ball ricocheted into his hand and the referee gives a penalty.
"Then Andy Walsh is pulled down in the box and he waves play on. Those two decisions cost us dearly," said Greenhalgh.
"We deserved at least a point and it's a shame we didn't get it, but we have to get on with it and try and turn things around," he added.
Greenhalgh was hoping for a better performance against Chepstow last night. Saturday's visit of Penrhiwfer though promises to be an even tougher proposition.
"They're newly promoted and so an unknown quantity," explained Greenhalgh. "We'll approach the match cautiously and hope to pick up a win."
Saturday's match kicks off at Plough Road at 3pm. The following Tuesday Goytre play again at home against Caerau Ely, kick off 6.30pm.
